  • Every day, businesses and individuals spend too much when they ship small packages. Here's help from Stamps.com on how to save BIG MONEY on SMALL PACKAGES:

The least expensive way to get full USPS tracking is to add Delivery or Signature Confirmation to create a First Class "parcel" - a rigid package between 1/4" and 3/4" deep.

The cost savings is significant. For example: a 2oz. package shipped as a First Class Parcel with Delivery Confirmation (3-day delivery) would cost only $0.73 versus $3.85 if it were shipped as a Priority Mail package (2-day delivery).

But what about Delivery time? Priority Mail is expedited and almost always processed before First Class Mail -- that's why the USPS can assure delivery in 2-3 days almost anywhere in the country. However, First Class parcels are also delivered within three days to most of the United States as well. In general, Priority Mail may save a day in transit, but if you can wait an extra day, you can reduce your cost significantly.

Perfect for shipping CDs, DVDs, tickets or other important documents for which you want tracking information, but don't need Certified Mail or Priority Mail status.

Several packaging companies have developed specialized rigid cardboard boxes to help mailers take advantage of the First Class parcel rates. Look for packages 5/8" in depth to comply with USPS regulations. For information on whether your specific parcel will qualify, consult with your local USPS representative.
