What's the difference between OEM, Compatible and Remanufactured Cartridges?
- OEM Cartridges:
OEM is an abbreviation for Original Equipment Manufacturer. These manufacturers produce the replacement ink or toner for copiers or printers and normally will put the manufacturer's name on the product, such as Hewlett-Packard, Canon, IBM, Sharp, Lexmark, Brother, Epson, etc.
- Compatible Cartridges:
Generic cartridges are specially manufactured to meet or exceed OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) specifications and high standards of quality and reliability and offer high-quality printing results. Manufactured 100% brand new, containing only new components, they are an economical alternative to expensive name-brand cartridges and supplies, and allow for signficant savings over brand-name cartridges and supplies. The use of generic replacement cartridges does not void Printer Warranty, which is proven by the following US Congress New Legislation!
- Remanufactured Cartridges:
Remanufactured cartridges have been recycled to meet or exceed OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) specifications. The recycling and reprocessing process involves disassembling, inspecting, cleaning, replacing worn parts, reassembling, and filling the toner or ink. Once the remanufacturing process is complete, the cartridge is print tested, sealed, and packaged for resale.
Will using Compatible/Remanufactured cartridges void the warranty of my printer?
No, the use of Compatible/Remanufactured replacement cartridges does not void your Printers Warranty. The follow legislation passed by the U.S. Congress applies to these cartridges:
MAGNUSON-MOSS WARRANTY IMPROVEMENT ACT
United States Code Annotated
Title 15 Commerce and Trade
Chapter 50 Consumer Product Warranties
15 Section 2302
“(c) No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty of such product on the consumer's using, in connection with such product, any article or service (other than article or service provided without charge under the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade or corporate name; except that the prohibition of this subsection be waived by the commission if:
1) The warrantor satisfies the Commission that the warranted product will function properly only if the article or service so identified is used in connection with the warranted product, and
2) the Commission finds that such a waiver is in the public interest.”
Under no circumstances may any company or associate, salesperson or service technician deny you service or warranty work that would otherwise be covered under the warranty program.

What is the proper way to handle and install my cartridge?
Cartridges should always be handled with care. Do not touch the nozzles. You should keep your cartridges in the protective wrapping until you place them in the printer. Also be sure to store your cartridges upright for several hours before installation, this allows the ink to flow to the bottom of the sponge. When installing a new cartridge, make sure to remove any print head tape and vent-hole tape that is on the cartridge. Place the cartridge in your machine and perform the print head cleaning cycling on your machine 2-3 times in a row to get a good flow.
What should I do if there are white streaks in my printouts?
Check if the cartridge is empty. If it is not, place the cartridge on a soft tissue, allowing some ink to leak out. Allow the nozzle to then sit for a few minutes before gently wiping it with a soft tissue or cotton swab. Reinstall the cartridge, run the print head cleaning utility (described in your printer's operating manual) and attempt to print again.
What should I do if I am not getting full colors?
Place the clogged nozzles in a shallow dish filled with warm water and soak them until dried ink begins to flow freely from the nozzle. After several minutes of letting the dried ink flow, remove the nozzle from the water and gently dry it with a soft tissue or cotton swab. Reinstall the cartridge and run the print head cleaning mechanism (described in your printer's operating manual). If this does not work, repeat the procedure.
If the above tips helped but you think you should be getting fuller colors try this. With a paint program or other, draw 3 large boxes. Make one box red, one box blue and the last yellow (and one black if that is a problem color). By printing the color boxes at the highest resolution (dpi) possible, this forces the cartridge to push the ink out at a greater volume and once a good flow is achieved, you shouldn't have another problem again with that cartridge.
