Do I need to have my addresses in an address book to use Stamps.com?
No. You can manually enter a delivery address for each item you print using Stamps.com. If you have addresses that you use often, you may wish to store them in the Stamps.com Address Book. This will help save you time when printing postage.

I don't have any address book software installed on my PC, but I'd like to store my addresses someplace. Does Stamps.com have an address book I can use?
Yes. The Stamps.com software includes a built-in Address Book that allows you to store and manage your frequently used addresses.

Will I have to re-type all the addresses in my address books?
No. Stamps.com integrates directly with most major contact management programs to allow the use of your pre-existing contacts and addresses. For a complete list of the address books supported by Stamps.com click here.

Do I have to be connected to the Internet to add new addresses to my address book?
No. You may open the Stamps.com software and access certain features without being connected to the Internet. You may add new addresses to your address book, or edit existing addresses, but you will not be able to verify your addresses with the USPS® master address database. Just save your addresses, and you can verify them the next time you are connected to the Internet and logged in to your Stamps.com account.

Does all the postage I print from the Mailing and Shipping screens need to be linked to a mailing address?
Yes. Due to U.S. Postal ServiceŽ regulations, postage printed from the Mailing and Shipping areas require that each mailpiece be tied to a mailing address which is printed on the envelope or label together with the Indicium.

What is address matching?
The USPS maintains a database, updated monthly, of every valid, recognized mailing address in the United States. This USPS master address database is known as the Address Matching System, or AMS. Prior to printing, Stamps.com will automatically try to match each mailing address you enter with an address entry in the AMS database. As part of this check, Stamps.com validates your address, adds the proper ZIP+4 code, and places your address in proper USPS format. It checks the accuracy of the street address, but does not guarantee that a specific street address exists. AMS will improve the accuracy and timely delivery of your mailings. AMS is an online solution, so there is no need to purchase or order an updated CD-ROM which is required by other systems.

What is address cleansing?
To help expedite the sorting and routing of your mail, each address printed using Stamps.com will go through "address cleansing." Address cleansing is the process of standardizing an address according to the preferred USPS addressing standards. For example, if you write "Suite 100" in an address, the Stamps.com address cleansing process will abbreviate "Suite" to "STE", the preferred USPS format. During address cleansing, Stamps.com will also add the proper ZIP + 4 code to your address. Accurate, complete addresses help to ensure the timely delivery of your mail.

What if I don't have the full address?
If you do not have a complete address, you can use the AMS system to supply the missing address information. Enter as much address information as you have available, and the AMS system will try to return a list of possible matches. If the AMS system cannot locate possible matches, you may need to supply more address data.

What if I get an address mismatch?
If an address mismatch occurs, the AMS system was not able to find an exact match for the address you entered. The AMS will try to find the closest match to your address, then return a list of possible matches. You can then review the list, and select the correct address.

What if I keep getting notification of an invalid address?
On rare occasions, an address may not match anything within the AMS database, nor have a close enough match to return a list of possible matches. If this occurs, Stamps.com will not be able to print postage for that address. This is one of those unusual circumstances where using NetStamps will be needed, since you will need to address the envelope by hand. If this happens, we ask that you forward the invalid address to the Stamps.com Customer Support Team.

Can I change the font of the address that Stamps.com prints?
Yes. You can change the font type and size for both the delivery and return addresses that print on your mail. Stamps.com allows you to select any True Type font installed on your PC when printing on envelopes or labels. To assist with routing and delivery, the USPS recommends that you choose an easy-to-read font when printing your mail. To change your font, click the OPTIONS button in the MAILING or SHIPPING screens and select the desired font.

I'm getting the Address Override dialogue box, should I accept the override?
The Address Override Dialogue Box appears when the City, State, and ZIP can be verified, but the rest of the address cannot be verified.

Only accept the override if you are absolutely certain this is the correct address.

If you accept an address override, the USPS and Stamps.com cannot guarantee your mail piece will be correctly delivered.
